MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION SIGNED BETWEEN OUR UNIVERSITY AND ICESCO
A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between our University and the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) in New York, USA.
A high-level dialogue entitled “Science Diplomacy and Global Cooperation,” included in the Science Summit 2026 programme held within the framework of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, is currently taking place in New York. The event was jointly organized by ICESCO and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Rector of our University, Zhanar Temirbekova, participated in the international event as a member of Kazakhstan’s higher education delegation.
The dialogue addressed the role of science diplomacy in advancing international cooperation, the use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for sustainable development, equal access to scientific infrastructure, and other relevant issues.
During the international event, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova held a series of meetings and conducted negotiations aimed at expanding the University’s academic and research cooperation with international organizations. As a result, an important memorandum of cooperation was signed with ICESCO.
The memorandum covers cooperation in Yassawi studies, scientific research, youth initiatives, climate education, and international academic collaboration.
During the meeting, the parties discussed developing a joint roadmap to coordinate their collaborative activities. In particular, they considered organizing specialized research internships in Turkistan for young researchers from ICESCO member states, expanding scientific cooperation in the study of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi’s legacy, and enabling participating young researchers to establish Yassawi Studies Centers at their home universities.
The parties also explored opportunities for young researchers in Yassawi studies to undertake research internships, enhance their professional knowledge, and participate in joint scientific projects. Grant-support mechanisms for initiatives in this field were also considered.
Another area of cooperation discussed was support for youth initiatives related to climate change and environmental issues, as well as the organization of educational, scientific, and international youth programmes.
Thus, this important memorandum will facilitate the international study and promotion of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi’s legacy, support young researchers, and enable the implementation of joint scientific initiatives. The agreement will also pave the way for the further expansion of the University’s international academic and research partnerships.
