Achievements

In 2020, the educational programmes 6B01615 – History and 7M02210 – History of the Department of History successfully underwent specialized international accreditation. In 2021, the 6B02231 – History educational programme, and in 2022, the 8D01604 – History educational programme also successfully completed specialized international accreditation.

Since the 2021–2022 academic year, the Department of History has been implementing  educational programmes based on the dual education model. To organize dual education, the Department signed an agreement with M. Abenova Secondary School. Leading history teachers are involved in the dual education process.

The academic staff of the Department of History actively participate in the educational, scientific, extracurricular, and public life of the University and have achieved significant results in organizing the educational process and developing the University’s research activities. The publication activity of the academic staff is increasing from year to year, contributing to the overall development of the educational programmes.

• Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor H.M. Tursun completed a research internship at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Federation, from 2 to 17 March 2019.
• PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev completed a research internship under the Erasmus+ programme at Cumhuriyet University in Sivas, Türkiye, from 26 to 30 July 2021.

• PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev was sent to Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University, Niğde, Türkiye, from 31 March to 15 April 2022 to deliver a two-week lecture course within the framework of the Orhun Programme.

• PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev undertook a research visit to Ankara, Türkiye, from 16 to 24 November 2023 within the framework of grant project AP19676634.

• PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev undertook a research visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, from 23 to 31 January 2024 within the framework of grant project AP19676634.

• PhD, Associate Professor S.B. Sizdikov completed an academic mobility internship at Ege University in İzmir, Türkiye, from 16 to 31 November 2023.

• PhD, Associate Professor S.B. Sizdikov was awarded the 2022 Scholarship for Young Scientists of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Order No. 216 dated 28 December 2022).

• PhD, Associate Professor S.B. Sizdikov was awarded the title “Best University Teacher – 2023” (28 December 2023).

• Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.O. Nurbetova, a recipient of the Bolashak International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, completed a research internship in Social Sciences (45 T) – History at Akdeniz University in Antalya, Türkiye, from 1 February to 25 December 2022.

• In 2013, Nursultan Abbasov, a student of group TTA-111 of the 6B01615 – History educational programme, took second place at the Republican Student Scientific and Theoretical Conference. Academic supervisor: PhD, Associate Professor M. Salgarayev.

• From 9 to 15 November 2023, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva completed the 72-hour international training course “Leadership Theory” in Istanbul, Türkiye.

• In 2020, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva became a recipient of the State Scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Order No. 542).

• In 2023, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva, within the framework of the “500 Scientists” project of the Bolashak Programme administered by the Center for International Programs JSC, completed a research internship from 4 September 2023 to 4 March 2024 at the Department of History, Faculty of Letters, Akdeniz University, and at the AKUZEM Distance Education Center in Antalya, Türkiye.

Awards and Letters of Appreciation of the Academic Staff

• In 2021, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor H. Tursun was awarded the “30th Anniversary of Independence” medal.

• In 2022, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor H. Tursun received a Letter of Appreciation from the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

• In 2023, he received a Letter of Appreciation from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, for his research and investigative work related to the rehabilitation of victims of political repression.

• In 2019, PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev received a Letter of Appreciation from the Foundation of the First President as part of the “Tiregi Sender Elimnin – 2019” competition.

• In 2020, PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev received a Letter of Appreciation from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

• In 2021, PhD, Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev received a Letter of Appreciation from the Rector of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.

• In 2016, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.O. Nurbetova was awarded the “Yassawi – 850 Years” badge for her outstanding contribution to the development of the University.

• In 2023, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.O. Nurbetova was awarded a commemorative badge dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the University for her significant contribution to its development.

• In 2022, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva was awarded a commemorative badge dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.

• In 2022, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva received a Letter of Appreciation from the Department of Human Potential Development of Turkistan.

• In 2023, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva received a Letter of Appreciation from the Education Department of Turkistan Region for her contribution to the development of education and the spiritual development of the younger generation.

• In 2024, PhD, Associate Professor B. Sizdikov and M. Gursoy participated in an exchange of experience in scientific research methods at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Türkiye.

• On 15–16 April 2024, under the supervision of B. Sizdikov, a student was awarded a Third Degree Diploma for demonstrating a high level of knowledge and outstanding individual performance at the Republican Subject Olympiad for university students of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the educational programme “Archaeology and Ethnology.”

• In 2025, Candidates of Historical Sciences, Associate Professors Z. Adilbekova and G. Nurbetova participated in an experience exchange programme at Akdeniz University, Türkiye.

• In 2025, A.N. Jumadullayeva, M. Zholseitova, and E.U. Zulpikharova received Letters of Appreciation from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

• In 2025, A.N. Jumadullayeva received a Letter of Appreciation from the management of the “Qogamdyq Kelisim” institution of the Department of Public Development of Turkistan Region.

• In 2025, A.N. Jumadullayeva and G.T. Zhorayeva received Letters of Appreciation from the Chair of the Turkistan Regional Branch of the Amanat Party.

• In 2025, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.O. Nurbetova received a Letter of Appreciation from the Rector of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.

• In 2026, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, 8 March, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva was honoured by the Akim of Turkistan for her contribution to science.

• In March 2026, under the academic supervision of PhD, Senior Lecturer M. Salgarayev, Assel Kulakhmedova, a student of group GTA-412 of the History educational programme, was awarded the “Best Student” nomination in Central Asia.

• In 2026, under the academic supervision of Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor G.T. Zhorayeva, Zhannur Beisenbay, a student of group GTX-511, became a winner of the international “Best Student of the CIS” competition and was awarded a First Degree Diploma.

• From 9 to 12 September 2026, Dean of the Faculty, Associate Professor E.U. Zulpikharova, participated in and delivered a presentation at the XIV International Symposium of Altaic Communities entitled “The Past, Present and Future of Altaic Studies” in Baku, Azerbaijan. The international scientific forum brought together 110 scholars from 15 countries to discuss current issues in Altaic studies, Turkology, and the history and culture of Turkic peoples. E.U. Zulpikharova was awarded a certificate for her active participation in the international scientific event.

• On 24 September 2026, a presentation of the textbook “The Use of Foreign Archival Sources in Teaching the Contemporary History of Kazakhstan” by PhD Raigul Khazretalikyzy was held. The event was moderated by Associate Professor K. Bazarbayev, while Dean of the Faculty E.U. Zulpikharova cut the ceremonial ribbon marking the presentation of the textbook. Faculty members and students attended the event.

• On 8 October 2026, the Faculty of Education and Humanities of Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University hosted a presentation of scholarly works entitled “The Turkic World: Historical and Cultural Integration and Cooperation.” During the event, a monograph, a textbook, and a collection of readings prepared with the participation of Acting Professor of the Department of History K. Bazarbayev were presented to students of the History Teacher Training educational programme.

• PhD, Associate Professor S.B. Sizdikov participated in an experience exchange programme at Gazi University in Ankara, Türkiye, from 5 to 12 October 2026 within the framework of the Orhun Academic Mobility Programme.

• Project leader, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor M.B. Kozha; PhD, Associate Professor B.S. Sizdikov; and Master’s degree holder and Lecturer Sh. Almazuly undertook a research visit to Cambridge, United Kingdom. During the visit, they studied written sources and manuscripts related to the history of Islam in Kazakhstan and Central Asia held in the collections of the libraries of the University of Cambridge and the British Museum.

• On 29 September 2026, they participated in the international scientific conference “Archaeological Approaches to Urbanism and Urban Sustainability in Medieval Central Asia,” held at King’s College, University of Cambridge, and delivered research presentations. Project leader, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor M.B. Kozha presented research on the significance of the mihrabs discovered in the rabad of Otyrar for the history of the spread of Islam, as well as on “The Study of the Burial Place of Abylai Khan.” B.S. Sizdikov presented a paper on the formation of urban culture in the Keles Valley, while Sh. Almazuly presented the results of archaeological research at the Kultobe settlement. The research visit provided an opportunity to present the results of historical and archaeological studies to the international academic community and contributed to strengthening international scientific cooperation.
