Our History

History of the Faculty of Law

The history of the Faculty of Law is closely connected with the establishment of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University in 1991. At the time of its opening, the Faculty of Law included the following departments: “State-Legal Disciplines”, “Criminal Law, Procedure and Criminology”, and “Civil Law and Procedure”. In the early years, the teaching staff of these departments consisted of distinguished legal scholars who made significant contributions to the development of legal science in Kazakhstan. Among them were: Doctor of Law, Professor E. Qaiyrzhanov, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Doctor of Law, Professor T. Agdarbekoв; Doctor of Law, Professor K.M. Ilyasova; Doctor of Law, Professor N.B. Mukhitdinov; qualified specialist, Associate Professor M. Seitqazykyzy, who served as the Prosecutor of the city of Turkistan; Colonel of Police B.I. Nakipov, who served as the Head of the Turkistan City Department of Internal Affairs; Colonel of Police A.B. Bahautdinov, who headed the Turkistan Railway Department of Internal Affairs; PhD, Associate Professor R.M. Seitova; PhD, Associate Professor Z. Tolegenova; PhD, Associate Professor Zh. Omirzakova; Doctor of Law, Professor T.A. Agdarbekoв; Doctor of Law, Professor U. Charyyarov; PhD, Associate Professor B. Begaliev; PhD, Professor N.M. Batyrbaev; PhD (PhD), Associate Professor K.T. Bitemirov; Associate Professor A. Erali; Associate Professor of Yassawi University G.A. Baimuratova; PhD, Associate Professor Zh.S. Adukarimova; PhD, Associate Professor R.Sh. Myrzabek; PhD, Associate Professor K. Shemetayev; PhD, Associate Professor S.T. Mustafayev. In addition, prominent foreign scholars such as Professor M.S. Seidakhmetov and U. Charyyarov also worked at the faculty.

In the 2014–2015 academic year, the departments “State-Legal Disciplines”, “Criminal Law, Procedure and Criminology”, and “Civil Law and Procedure” were merged to form the “Jurisprudence” Department. From the 2014–2015 academic year until the 2025–2026 academic year, the “Jurisprudence” Department functioned within the structure of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Law.

Currently, starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, the Faculty of Law has once again been re-established as an independent faculty. The Dean of the Faculty is PhD Senior Lecturer Aliya Orynbassarqyzy Qasymbek. In the same academic year, the “Jurisprudence” Department was divided into two separate departments: the “Criminal Law” Department and the “Constitutional Law and Civil Law” Department. Acting Head of the “Criminal Law” Department is PhD Senior Lecturer Aigul Omirzaqyzy Nurmukhambet, and Acting Head of the “Constitutional Law and Civil Law” Department is PhD Senior Lecturer Manshuk Mazhitqyzy Imanbekova.
