History and General Information

The department was established on September 1, 2006 as part of the Faculty of Medicine as the Department of "language disciplines". Candidate of philological sciences K. Zhanatayev was appointed as the head of the department. In the 2007-2008 academic year, the department was divided into two parts and renamed "Foreign Languages". In the 2008 academic year, since September 2, due to changes in the structure of the University, the Department of "Foreign languages" was closed and replaced by the Department of "English for natural science specialties ". In the 2011-2012 academic year, the department became part of the Faculty of Philology and changed to "Foreign languages" as a department for training specialists in Russian, English, Chinese and Arabic, in the 2014-2015 academic year – it was renamed "World Languages".
In 2016-2017, the department was divided into the Departments of "World Languages" and "General Academic English", and as the head of the Department of "World languages" was appointed candidate of philological sciences, assistant professor Beisembayeva S. B.
According to the decision of the 73rd meeting of the Plenipotentiary Council of December 03, 2022, the Department of "World languages" was renamed the Department of "Russian language and literature". (No. 1/539 dated 13.12.2022). The department is the main educational and scientific structural unit of the University and is part of the Faculty of philology.
The Department of Russian Language and Literature, which implements undergraduate educational programs 6B01717 - Russian Language and Literature, 6B01764 - Russian Language and Literature in Schools with Non-Russian Language of Instruction, 6B01724 - Russian Language and Literature in Schools with Russian and Non-Russian Languages of Instruction (IP), 6B02377 - Philology: Russian Language and Literature, and postgraduate program 7M01738 - Russian Language and Literature, is a structural subdivision of the Faculty of Philology at Akhmet Yassawi University. The educational programs in major subjects are run by 1 Doctor of Sciences (Professor), 5 Candidates of Sciences (two of whom hold the Academic Title of Associate Professor under the Higher Attestation Commission - VAK), 2 Masters of Education, 2 lecturers, and 1 secondary school teacher (as part of dual education).
