A TRAINING SESSION ON “ACADEMIC ETHICS AND RESPONSIBILITY” WAS HELD
The training was organized within the framework of the corporate breakfast held every Tuesday. These meetings aim to enhance professional qualifications and foster team-building for deans, department heads, directors of research institutes, deputy deans, and heads of academic departments.
Emphasizing the importance of the chosen topic, Elmira Idrissova noted: “Ethics consists of small daily choices that shape the reputation of the university. Academic ethics is honesty, fairness, trust, responsibility, and respect. It is not just a written code. Ethics is a chain of our decisions.”
During the training, Elmira Idrissova first addressed the questions: “Where is ethics most often tested at the management level? Why is academic integrity important?”
She then presented the Decision Tree — a “tree of ethical decision-making.” This method demonstrates four possible paths a leader may take when confronted with a particular situation. Its main purpose is to examine a problem from different perspectives, discuss all possible options rather than only the “correct” one, understand the logic behind each decision, and ultimately choose the most reasonable and fair solution.
The speaker also offered participants group tasks using the “Decision Tree” method. Situational cases were provided, and participants were asked to find solutions. Each group prepared and defended its work. In addition, participants engaged in various interactive activities aimed at developing academic ethics and responsibility.
At the conclusion of the training, participants presented a list of concrete actions they intend to implement to improve ethics in the 2025–2026 academic year.
Thus, the participants gained a deep understanding of the essence of academic ethics and explored ways to make fair and precise decisions in complex managerial situations.
