Today, a photo exhibition titled “Captured History” was held to mark the 60th anniversary of Nakhyp Sheriuly Shintemirov, a well-known photographer of the Turkistan region, the official photo chronicler of our university, and an active member of the national public association “Photo Art.”
The event began with melodious instrumental pieces performed by the “Atameken” folk ensemble of national instruments. Photographers, art professionals, and students from various regions of the country gathered for the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition featured more than 60 photographic works created by the author over many years. The exposition presented the historical appearance of the city of Turkistan, its transformation over time, as well as significant moments and meaningful events from the life of the university. These works represent a valuable chronicle not only of the university but also of the spiritual and cultural history of the entire region.
Opening the ceremony, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova stated:
“Dear guests, colleagues, and beloved students! Welcome to the opening of this remarkable exhibition by Nakhyp Sheriuly. As you know, there are 365 days in a year, yet our university hosts nearly 700 different events annually at various levels—international, national, regional, and internal. The participants of these events change constantly: distinguished international guests, government officials, ministers, and representatives of various institutions. However, there is one person who is always present at every event. He captures all these moments, creating the golden history of our university and turning it into an unforgettable chronicle. For more than 20 years, this person has been Nakhyp aga. We express our sincere gratitude for your dedicated work.”
Afterward, Rector Zhanar Temirbekova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elmira Idrisova, Acting Executive Secretary Ender Saiyn, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan and President of the “Photo Art” public association Asylkhan Abdiraiymuly, and the author of the exhibition Nakhyp Sheriuly officially opened the exhibition by cutting the ribbon.
During the event, young poet Asylzhan Esimkhanuly recited a heartfelt dedication, expressing respect and warm wishes to the юбilee celebrant, Nakhyp Shintemirov.
Next, photojournalist and Chairman of the “Photo Art” public association Asylkhan Abdiraiymuly said: “For today’s event, specialists and students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the T. Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts have come specially. Photographers have traveled from Almaty and other regions to attend. We have worked together with Nakhyp Sheriuly in the ‘Photo Art’ association for many years, striving to serve our country and our nation. This year marks the 200th anniversary of photography. Therefore, it is a great joy to see such events being widely organized. I wish success to the conference and express my gratitude to the university administration and staff for organizing this important event.”
The “Captured History” exhibition not only presented photographs to viewers but also allowed them to delve into the depths of time and feel the connection between the past and the present.
The series of events continued with a roundtable discussion titled “Photography and Artificial Intelligence: The Intersection of Creativity and Technology.”
