As part of the Fulbright International Program, our university hosted a seminar and training session conducted by Faina Linkov, a professor at Duquesne University in the United States, epidemiologist, and global health researcher.

Faina Linkov is the author of more than 100 international scientific publications. According to the Scopus database, her h-index is 25.

It should be noted that the professor first visited the Shymkent campus, where she held seminars for medical professionals at the Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education on October 7–8.

The professor was welcomed by Vice-Rector for Science and Strategic Development Ainash Oshibayeva and members of the university community. The Vice-Rector expressed her pleasure at welcoming the scholar to the university, presented her with commemorative gifts, and thanked her for conducting informative seminars for early-career medical researchers.

The seminar and training session was attended by faculty members led by Gulnaz Nuskabayeva, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, as well as master’s and doctoral students and undergraduate students.

The purpose of the event was to provide healthcare professionals with guidance on the capabilities and ethical risks associated with artificial intelligence tools.

During the seminar, the scholar systematically explained the key stages of research supervision, academic writing, and the publication of research findings in international journals.

She also provided guidance on preparing manuscripts in accordance with the requirements of leading journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science and on avoiding predatory journals.

During the meeting, the epidemiologist noted that she has been collaborating with Kazakhstani researchers to publish scientific articles on children’s health and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic at the international level.

In addition, she highlighted ten areas in which artificial intelligence is widely used in medicine. She also discussed international approaches to using artificial intelligence not as a replacement for researchers, but as an effective assistant in conducting literature reviews and processing data.

Through her lectures and training sessions, the professor shared the latest technology-driven scientific approaches and research methods in the fields of chronic disease research, cancer prevention, and molecular epidemiology.
