BEISEN KURANBEK SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
Today, our university hosted a ceremony to award the Beisen Kuranbek Scholarship to students of the Department of Journalism. The scholarship is named after Beisen Kuranbek, an outstanding figure and shining star of Kazakh journalism.
The event was attended by Yerzhan Baitiles, General Director of Qazaq Gazetteri LLP; Uali Kydyr, General Director of Turkistan Media Holding LLP; Galymzhan Yelshibay, Chairman of the Mediacracy Public Association and renowned journalist; Mustafa Giritlioglu, Vice-Rector for Finance and International Relations; faculty members and students led by Darkhan Yelzhanov, Dean of the Faculty of Art, Media and Design; and representatives of the media.
It should be noted that since 2021, the Beisen Kuranbek Scholarship has been awarded annually to the best students majoring in Journalism. The initiative was launched by the Turkistan Regional Branch of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan. This year, the scholarship was sponsored by Malik Dauletov, Chairman of the Turkistan Regional Branch of the Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan.
The meeting was moderated by Galymzhan Yelshibay, Chairman of the Mediacracy Public Association and organizer of this traditional initiative.
Vice-Rector Mustafa Giritlioglu was the first to address the participants:
“I am delighted to see representatives of the media among us today. Our university provides many opportunities for future journalists. One such opportunity is a month-long international internship for fourth-year Journalism students at Türkiye’s state television channels. I believe that you also provide considerable support for this initiative. It is a great honour for students to receive the scholarship named after Beisen Kuranbek, an outstanding journalist and public figure. Beisen Kuranbek exemplified intellectual integrity, civic responsibility, mentorship, service to the nation, and journalistic accountability.”
Yerzhan Baitiles, General Director of Qazaq Gazetteri LLP, then introduced the participants to the activities of the organization he heads.
Galymzhan Yelshibay, Chairman of the Mediacracy Public Association, spoke about the work of the Department of Journalism and shared his views on the significance of modern media and the traditional press in society. Referring to the words of the great national educator Akhmet Baitursynuly, “A newspaper is the eyes, tongue, and ears of the people,” he emphasized the important role of journalism in society.
The event featured an open dialogue between professional and aspiring journalists. Students exchanged views and received answers to their questions.
The participants were also treated to a special programme prepared by talented students of the Faculty of Art, Media and Design.
The event then continued with the scholarship award ceremony. The recipients of the 2027 Beisen Kuranbek Scholarship were first-year student Zhanel Mustafayeva, second-year student Bekarys Raikhan, and fourth-year student Farangiz Gulamkadirova. Yerzhan Baitiles, General Director of Qazaq Gazetteri LLP, presented each recipient with a cash scholarship of 100,000 tenge.
At the end of the meeting, Vice-Rector Mustafa Giritlioglu presented Yerzhan Baitiles with a commemorative gift on behalf of the University.
This meaningful tradition, aimed at supporting educated and talented young people, will continue in the years ahead.
