To mark Republic Day on 25 October, a cultural and educational ethno-picnic titled “Yassawi Shanyrak: A Home of Friendship and Unity” was held at the Khantagi recreation area. The event was organized by the Department for Social and Cultural Activities and Psychological Support.

The main purpose of the event was to introduce international students to the national values, traditions, customs, and cultural heritage of the Kazakh people, promote intercultural dialogue, and strengthen friendship and mutual respect at our university.

Opening the event, Head of the Department Elmira Ussenkyzy spoke about the significance of the ethno-picnic. She emphasized the importance of bringing together representatives of different ethnic groups under the Yassawi Shanyrak, promoting shared values, and strengthening mutual respect and harmony.

The ethno-picnic began with a “Circle of Friendship” introductory session. The participants exchanged views freely around a shared festive table and got to know one another better. Young people from different countries showed interest in each other’s cultures and traditions and engaged in friendly conversation.

As part of the cultural programme, students showcased their talents by performing national songs and dances. Accompanied by the resonant sound of the dombra, they also recited poetry and performed traditional songs. The participants played asyk and learned about other Kazakh national games.

The students also contributed to environmental conservation. A “Friendship Alley” was established in the foothills of Khantagi, where representatives of different ethnic groups planted trees. In addition to celebrating friendship, this initiative demonstrated care for the environment and the meaningful tradition of leaving a shared legacy for future generations.

Thus, the cultural and educational gathering brought representatives of different ethnic groups closer together, strengthened friendly relations, and promoted shared values.
