Mereke Aidarsha, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Fine Arts of our University and holder of the Badge of Excellence in Culture, took second place at the international carpet exhibition “Gilamlar Jilosi” (The Splendour of Carpets), held in Uzbekistan.
The primary objective of the exhibition was to preserve and develop the centuries-old art of carpet weaving and integrate it with contemporary design.
The international exhibition, held in Khiva on 17–18 October, brought together renowned carpet weavers, artisans, designers and scholars from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Türkiye and other countries.
The participants presented outstanding examples of national carpet weaving and introduced visitors to the traditional weaving schools and distinctive techniques of different peoples, as well as the symbolic meanings of their national motifs and ornaments.
At the exhibition, Mereke Aidarsha, a member of the Union of Artisans of Kazakhstan, showcased the traditional Kazakh art of carpet weaving and presented the distinctive features of Kazakhstan’s national handicrafts to an international audience.
