A SEMINAR TITLED “BIOETHICS IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL BIOETHICS COMMITTEE” WAS HELD
At our university, a seminar on “Bioethics in Scientific Research and the Role of the Local Bioethics Committee” was held in celebration of Science Month.
The event was attended by doctoral students and their academic advisors, faculty members teaching research-related courses, master’s students, and other scholars engaged in scientific research.
The main objective was to ensure that scientific research conducted at the university complies with bioethical standards, and to provide researchers and academic supervisors with information about the activities of the Local Bioethics Committee. The seminar also aimed to explain the procedure for conducting bioethical review of research and the ethical principles that must be observed during the research process.
Opening the event, Khairulla Massadikov, Director of the Department of Science, said: “Dear young scientists, I hope today’s seminar will be very useful and valuable for you. When it comes to publishing research projects in high-ranking international journals with strong scientific indicators, experts primarily focus on the quality of the research and adherence to international standards. In this regard, independent Local Bioethics Committees operate within each organization to ensure that researchers’ work meets international requirements. These committees monitor and evaluate the quality of research. Therefore, I believe that the topics covered in today’s seminar will be highly beneficial.”
Next, Ainur Assan, Secretary of the Local Bioethics Committee, who joined online, delivered a presentation on “The Role of the Local Bioethics Committee and the Procedure for Conducting Bioethical Review of Scientific Research.”
Elmira Tuleshova, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor, shared new insights on observing bioethical standards in medical research.
Nurbol Baybakhov, PhD, Senior Lecturer of the Department of International Relations, presented important information on “Observing Bioethical Standards in Social and Humanities Research.”
Participants of the seminar enhanced their knowledge of the fundamental principles and requirements of bioethics. They also became familiar with the specific features of complying with bioethical standards in medical, social, and humanities research. Additionally, practical information was provided on protecting the rights of research participants and ensuring the confidentiality of personal data during the conduct of scientific studies.
